Happy Labor Day weekend ST’ers! Hopefully everbody gets to have some fun and sun and bbq and all that shit before the cold, grim, merciless hands of fall and winter are upon us. That’s right…cold and grim and merciless hands. Sounds kind of forboding doesn’t it? Well, good…it’s supposed to be. Summer is over. There is no reason to try and pretend that it’s still kicking around. It’s as dead as Val Kilmer’s career; as lifeless as some of you so called ST’ers who no longer post. See, I used to be one of those people who was like “Oh! Summer’s not over until September 21! Viva bbq and pool time! Hooray for ice cold pissy beer and coolers! Board shorts and bikinis! Woohoo!” Not anymore. Call me cynical, call me slumpy, call me a bore but I just feel like we should apply the old bandaid analogy to summer…just rip it off, why prolong it? This is not to say I won’t enjoy whatever good weather we get this weekend but after this I say bring on the snow, the cold, the wind! Dark mornings and early nightfall! Doom metal and dark beers! Winter coats! Boots! Faded tans that turn into pale ghostlike skin! Maybe I am the only one who is actually welcoming the end of this year’s mighty summer? Maybe these are the ramblings of a madman? Maybe this is a poorly written post composed at work that is greatly influenced by boredom and fatigue and fried rice? You decide for yourself, dear reader but one thing I know for sure is that the bright summer sun is not long for this world so enjoy it while you can…

Man, don’t know what happened in that post above but that’s some weird shit to be writing. Forgive me for that, kinda lost track of myself there for a sec. Sometimes that happens…like I get on these rants and then I black out and wake up with my pants tied around my head and random pills in one pocket and a pack of Salem 100′s in the other. It’s weird, trust me. Anyways…so Hank Williams III is on tour right now. I would highly recommend you go check it out if he comes through your town at some point this fall. For fans of country music, whiskey, depression, good times, drug abuse, bad times, women and well…you get the picture. If you don’t like it you’re probably no fun anyways so there. I personally have never seen him live but everyone I know that has attended one of his shows (Sleepy Blair!) has had nothing but stellar shit to report. That being said, I will be in attendance at the 9:30 club in good ol Washington DC on Sunday in order to see the man himself. As always, with any show I go to, if you’re in town gimme a holler. Again, I know none of you are around but still, the offer stands. Surprise me one of these days. We’ll drink some mash and talk some trash and paint this town brown, inside and out. Wait, what? Forget that. Just go check out Hank if ya can.

Free Movie Friday

It’s a twofer – first up:
I was listening to Smodcast and was wondering if I could find out how Cop Out was without having to pay money to see it, because of all the stuff I heard, none of it was really good.
So I googled it and found an actual copy of the movie on Ustream! the funniest part it was shot in the theatre and streamed live as the dude watched the movie, what a great idea.
So on to my review.
First off, they go through a bunch of movie quotes in the very opening scene, which is fine, but you don’t have to tell me the fucking references! It’s insulting and makes the jokes less funny, that bothered me.
But other than that, I didn’t mind the movie at all, I kind of enjoyed it, it seems like one of those movies that you end up watching on a Sunday afternoon when you are hung over and too effed up to search for the remote.
They pull out every cop movie cliche you could think of and Tracy Morgan is friggin hilarious, as always. The story is interesting enough, and the supporting cast is having a ball, you can just tell. I think Kevin Smith harkened back to the days of 80s cop movies and interesting enough, managed to mix in his thoughts and feelings on male insecurity, adult relationships and being a nerd boy, but to me it wasn’t overt, but what do I know.
Oh, and the soundtrack is great. So in your spare time, like at work when your boss isn’t looking, check it out.
I really think that watching movies on a small screen with not so great quality does take away from your reaction to the movie but I did sit through the whole thing.

next, is Real Genius, some of Kilmer’s best work, on hulu. This movie is awesome, I may be dating myself(non exclusive) but this movie is rad, although it is hard to seperate art from nostalgia.

So a full ten days after Best Friends Day I have a few shitty pics taken from my phone camera. See, I brought my regular little shitty point and shoot but the minute I took the wrist strap off (about an hour after getting there) it falls off my wrist and hits the cement never to turn on again, very sad. So no pics of Tim Barry or The Arrivals or the crowd of crusties and punkers and freaks that were at the show in the Fine Foods parking lot. I mean, I have the memory card but we all know I am too lazy to upload that shit plus I am doing this from work so piss off, okay? I will save the eulogy for the camera for a later date but let’s just say it was a trusty little thing and it has been with me through hell and high water but apparently couldn’t handle Richmond. RIP little buddy, you’ll be missed.

I hope some of you can make it next year. I know you won’t but it sounds nice and makes me seem like less of an asshole. Thanks to Brendan and Krista for letting us crash in their beeeeautful home and to Rats for driving. 8/21/2010, never forget! Oh and two words: watermelon wheat. Trust me on this one.

The shallow end of Hadad’s Lake. Kinda dirty what with the beercans on the bottom of the lake but we played a righteous game of blackout three ball volleyball there with some other punkers and punkettes.

John Brannon of Negative Approach fame. I walked up and shook his hand. Dude is as real as it gets. Plays in a legendary hardcore band with a crazy large guarantee yet is still hustlin his own merch. Solid.

The aftermath of Negative Approach. Dance party in effect at the front of the stage. Only at Best Friend’s Day can you go from watching Negative Approach violently tear apart the stage to a dance off complete with Beyonce and Ying Yang Twins.

So apprently this guy jumped from the mezzanine at Jones Beach Amphitheater last night during Antelope (A song during which I once had an epiphany in Vegas 1998, ask me about it) . I don’t need to tell you but that’s some seriously fucked up shit. Who knows his reasoning or what he was on but I guess I am just glad no one else got hurt. I’m not going to state an opinion on this guy but I do hope that he ends up being okay. I fell off with Phish a long time ago and while I still got love for em I can’t say that I really understand what that whole scene is about these days. Shit done changed since my first show back in December 1997 and I am certainly well past my glory days of Phish from the late 90′s and early 2000′s. That being said, I do know that I think it’s fucked for a person to make an attempt on their own life while endangering others but at the same time I hate the “oh that’s what happens when you take acid” bullshit that seems to be perpetuated by the anonymous, faceless comments that can be found here. But then again that’s fairly typical for the level of commentary you will find on BV. Anyways, hope this guy recovers but I think this is a fairly accurate representation of that “community” these days, seriously fucked up priorities and people. Maybe “representation” is the wrong word but let’s just say I was not all that surprised to read this when I came into work this morning. Perhaps it’s a bit early for me to be fully processing this, what do you think? Whatever you do, take care of your shoes…

Oh…hello there. I am back from the Colorado Territory and what a time it was. I took lots and lots of pictures and got Durban Poison’d and had a general fantastic time amongst other things. But I am feeling lazy and lethargic today and really don’t feel like talking about how I spent my mini summer vacation however I am still going to present you with this fine piece of…I don’t know what you wanna call it but I certainly hate the term mash up, that much I do know.
