Now I am acutely aware of the hatred and backlash directed towards this band (cough…Andrew….cough) HOWEVER they are not a cover band nor are they some sort of throwback to the good ol’ days of the Dead…well maybe they conjure the good ol days just a little bit.  These guys, contrary to popular belief, are indeed doing something new. They are taking songs and jams and making them their own and putting new twists on older tunes,  they are delving deep into the back catalog of tunes the Dead would not have played even if they were still around, and they are especially bringing the party to each and every city they visit.  Having attended a few shows I can honestly say that the Furthur lot beats the hell out of a frat bro, snobby, square Phish lot any day of the week.  But I digress…judge for yourself.  They are doing a ton of shows up and down the East Coast this Spring so check em out if you have even the slightest liking for the music of the Dead, Bob Weir’s tiny shorts, or are just lookin for a real good time.

Oh and if anyone wants to purchase the above image in giant poster form for me for Christmas it would be alright by me.

Apparently,  it has been confirmed only just yesterday or so that he died on Thanksgiving day.  He played drums for the band from their inception in 1979 all the way to 2009 when he was basically fired during their reunion tour.  Guitarist Dave Chandler attributed the firing to “health problems” but who the hell knows.  I’m not going to speculate but we all have our demons I suppose…  Dude was 58 and way too young to pass on.  He was a madman behind the kit and played on virtually all of their seminal albums including my personal favorite, their fifth album aptly titled V.  I remember actually being super psyched to see all of the original members  in Baltimore last October (2009) and then finding out, I think a few days before the show or shortly before the tour started, that he was canned.  Bummer.  Tonight I am gonna crank V and raise a beer and a tube in tribute.  Check out some of his drumming action here.  RIP bro.

Leslie Nielsen and now Armando…WTF?  Here’s to hoping Glenn Beck or the “God Hates Fags” founder dude is next.

I must also say that the flavor in question was cut with Slurpee and I was already drinking beer.  Also I feel the need to add that this was back in August at Best Friends Day in good ol RVA.  In any case, with all the media hype surrounding this supposed “blackout in a can” I feel the need to procure some before it gets banned.  Long story short, let’s do this ST’ers.  Party till you puke.  I’m going to see the Stringdusters at the State Theater tonight and I’m gonna grab some of that good ol’ cranberry lemonade flavor.  I suggest you do the same and report back here.  Though I’m sure you won’t as there are probably like three of you that read this drivel and none of you post (with the notable exceptions…you know who you are) so forget it. 

In fact, this is a good time to mention the firings.  CEO Andrew J. Top Hat has been MIA as of late so I’m not sure who is going to get the axe first but I think we have some ideas so get ready.  If you think that there’s chance that you could get fired, then you probably will be.  Do you care?  Probably not but it’s funny anyways.  Big changes are in the works folks, and no that’s not the Four Loko talking.
