It is damn good. After a first pass, I think my favorite track is “Philadelphia Zoo.” Mostly for the shout-out to the near-bankrupt Philadelphia Institution, TastyKakes These guys are out of this world. They put on an awesome live show. The Antidote has been in regular rotation on my playlist for a long time now (You just can’t beat 80s samples and Dice Raw). Definitely check both of these out, and let me know what you think.

I know Blackthought doesn’t have any sweet ice cream tats, but he is still damn talented.

I’d like to give a big shoutout to my boy The Doctor for sending this my way last night

So I won a free happy hour for me and guests at the Public House in Philadelphia, PA on 18th between Arch and Cherry from 5 – 6 PM on Friday (8/20), with specials available for a few hours after. Since I don’t know enough people in Philly to get this party started, I am opening it up to the public! If you are going to be in the area, send me an e-mail (joseph at ajtgraphics dot com) with your name, and I will add you to the list.

We are going to play a game called, “You should have never given Joey Dew this deal, because we are going to drink you out of business, while listening to Billy Joel.“

Oh yeah, and make sure you are reading, I.Drop.Truth.Bombs. It gets funnier every day.

Yo Slowfolks. I know it’s been a while, but, my new apartment building has a pool, and there hasn’t been a lot of rain in Philly lately.

I know you all are already hip-to-it, but I thought I would share some music that I have been digging hard over the summer.

First off, The Money Making Jam Boys. This is Black Thought, Truck North, P.O.R.N., Dice Raw, et. al. at their finest. Got to catch them at the Roots Picnic in early June, and it was damn good. You can grab the free mixtape here (The Antidote). I have to say, I’ve really enjoyed the mixtape … All the samples are from 80s music, it’s a lot of fun.

On a related note, The Roots put out a new album, “How I Got Over,” in June. It’s damn good, so if you haven’t yet, go get it.

Another goodie from The Roots Picnic was Bajah + The Dry Eye Crew. This is a dancehall/reggae band from Sierra Leone and they are FUCKING AWESOME. I have never seen a band play with so much energy and have so much fun on stage. I was psyched to find them in June, and have been shouting their praises ever since. Go and download the mixtape. Go see them if they come to your city, and keep your eyes peeled, because they are going to blow up.

Rick Ross put out a new album, “Teflon Don” a couple weeks ago. I’ve been using it as my secret weapon to look cool while driving around town.

Earlier this week, a good friend took me to see Arcade Fire and Spoon. Truth be told, I had never heard of either of them until late last week, but I have to say that I enjoyed the music and thought they both put on a good show. I definitely recommend them.

Finally, a music post just wouldn’t be complete without a Toto reference. So, if you don’t click on any links, or take any suggestions from this, at least watch this little bit of awesome.

I would like to extend a shout-out to my boy, Spacejam, for sending me that little bit of spectacular internet video.

Here are some random, non-music related things I think you need in your life:

My buddy started, I.Drop.Truth.Bombs. Check it out, he’s a funny guy.

Lightspeed Magazine started publishing in June. It’s good. Read it.

So one of my favorite bands in the world is The Slackers. They are a spectacular New York City ska band. Their new album, “The Great Rocksteady Swindle” was just released last Tuesday. I recommend everyone bust open their wallets and spend the $10 for this gem. Here is a preview track available from youtube:

One of my favorites from the album is definitely the dub-remix of “Ain’t No Sunshine.” This track alone was almost worth the $10 for the album.

Also, David Byrne and Fatboy Slim put out a new album, “Here Lies Love.” My buddy Matt turned me on to its release a couple weeks ago, and I have to say I’m very impressed. This is good walking around town music.

Finally, I also grabbed Major Lazer, Guns Don’t Kill People … Lazers Do.

In conclusion, if you buy any album this month/year/decade go with the Slackers. If you are feeling adventurous, or have access to a good torrent client , go ahead and grab all three.
