Happy Friday: Thundersnow Freakout Edition

December 18th, 2009

Okay so depending on where you live in this great nation of ours they are calling for a lot of snow.  Here in the DC area, it’s supposed to be anywhere from eight to sixteen inches.  I’m all for the maximum amount possible since we usually just get shitty rain/sleet/”wintry mix”.  So bring on the snow, it’s gonna be a long weekend.

Tonight at the 9:30 Club the Greyboy Allstars are playing.  I’m not super familiar with their stuff but from what I have heard, I dig it a lot.  Should be a good show.  Karl Denson, their sax player, is apparently awesome and I somehow have slept on this dude for many years as I have seen his name around for a good long time.  For fans of funk, jazz and dancing like an idiot.

Other than that, there were supposed to be some fun party shenanigans going on in DC this Saturday but I think a lot of it is cancelled due to the weather and people’s general stupidity.  I never understood why people freak out with snow in this area and essentially act like assholes.  How do you people in more snow prone parts of the country handle it?  I mean, it’s not like it’s the apocalypse or something.  Stores are open, you can still buy food and beer.  What else do you really need?  Also, has anyone ever heard of thundersnow?  No, it’s not the newest, hottest DJ from Alaska (sorry that was stupid), it’s some sort of phenomenon where there is enough electricity or something in the air where thunder and lightning are made during a snowstorm.  And no, I totally didn’t read the wiki entry I just linked to, I suck.  They are calling for it overnight and into the morning.  Sounds weird and I’m totally gonna be on the lookout (earout?) for this ish while enjoying beverages from a cooler similar to the one below.

Okay, exactly two hours of work left until it’s party time.  Everyone have a good weekend, stay safe with this weather bullshit and make sure to drink.  A lot.  Seriously.  Treat yourself.
