The Full Collapse of Everything I Believe

April 18th, 2008 by joey dew

Being a twenty-three year old who is extremely fiscally conservative, against government intervention in business, and a firm believer in general Hayekian beliefs that individual strive for gain will benefit society more than collectivist action is extremely difficult. I spend a lot of time defending big business (especially oil companies and banks). I speak to deaf ears about how Barack Obama may be a communist, or Hillary Clinton the devil.

Today, a major blow was struck to my views of the world. I received my proxy solicitation from one of my mutual funds. After the usual mess of giving my shareholder votes to people I’ve never heard of, I was presented with this statement:

The Board of Trustees recommends a vote Against the following:

4. Shareholder proposal for Fidelity Growth Company Fund, Fidelity Magellan Fund, and Fidelity Value Fund concerning Board oversight procedures to screen out investments in companies that substantially contribute to genocide.

For ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Against ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? Abstain

…Really? Genocide? It’s not like this statement is concerning companies that may contribute to genocide. It’s people that substantially contribute to it. C’mon, even a cold-hearted, calculating businessman such as myself has to draw the line somewhere. Mine is drawn somewhere after social security, but before genocide.

…Coming soon, “Joey Dews [does] Semple Fest.”

I was introduced to this dj via kissatlanta. Fresh outta Philly, it’s the one and only Jon Gill. He sent me this exclusive hot hot track.(and yes it is 320 kbps binary, so play it out loud):
INXS ft Cozmic Cat – Need U Tonight (jon Gill remix) (320 kbps)
Check out his myspace, there are more sick tracks up on the site for download, and for all those in Philly, go check him out.

Slowstart Mondays

Some things to get your week going.
• First off, I wasn’t the biggest fan of Dizzee Rascal when he first came on the scene, but I caught his show at SXSW and listened to some of his new songs and they kick ass, check out his site, his new album is released in the US on April 29th.
• You can buy a triceretops, great, then what? do you put it in your front yard?
• On a nerdy computer-tv related news tip, networks are almost getting it.. Oh, and hulu rocks, just ask Sleepy.
Wifi on buses free, but your balls will pay the price.
• Drinking may lead to bad decisions, boobs also pay the price.
• I don’t know how I feel about a robot giving me drugs, especially if the French are involved.
• Studies show that hairdressers are risking their lives to frost your tips.
Selling fake Viagra: great idea, poorly executed.
• Rub and tug? How bout rub and hug.
• Don’t bring a knife to a can fight.
• Kentucky officials discuss philosophical debate: are goats pets or food?
• Another shitty movie does well at the box office.
• Now I dislike printers even more.
• Guess what, Mila Kunis is hot, and so is Veronica Mars.
• Noel Gallagher is lame, but not this lame.
• Hardworking nerds with time on their hands produce this kind of stuff, I just don’t see the point.
• I now finally have things to worry about.
• Oh, have a good day, this is funny, and this is friggin’ awesome.
